Coach Gabe Artega has been with the Coastal Warriors program from day one, capturing the attention of young players and building a foundation for their success. His energy, knowledge, and passion for the game have quickly made him a respected figure among athletes and parents alike.
A standout collegiate pitcher, Artega spent all four years at Westmont College, where he became a key part of the Warriors’ historic championship run. In his senior season (2023), he appeared in 20 games, all in relief, posting an impressive 1.95 ERA over 27 ⅔ innings. He struck out 28 batters, tallied nine saves, and finished with a 3-1 record.
Artega delivered some of his best performances on the biggest stage. He earned the win in the NAIA World Series Championship game against Lewis-Clark State, throwing 2 ⅓ scoreless innings while striking out two and allowing just two hits. Earlier in the tournament, he also secured the win in the NAIA Opening Round against British Columbia, pitching two shutout innings before the Warriors walked it off in the 10th. His reliability and poise under pressure cemented his reputation as a clutch performer.
Following his playing career, Artega began his transition into coaching. He served as the pitching coach at Santa Barbara High School, where he helped guide the Dons to an 18–7 record and their first Channel League title since 2019. His ability to connect with pitchers and translate his collegiate success into practical development strategies made an immediate impact.
Now on staff at Westmont College, Coach Artega continues to bring championship-level experience and a player-first approach to his coaching. With proven results and a deep love for the game, he is dedicated to developing the next generation of athletes and helping them succeed both on and off the field.
